Adjusting Levels in Photoshop CS5
You can adjust the intensity levels of an image's shadows, midtones and highlights by using the Levels Adjustment Layer by allowing you to correct the tonal range and colour balance. The levels histogram displays a graph show the image's key tones.
To open the levels command simple go to the Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels. Give the layer an appropriate name such as Adjustment Layer. Then click OK. Once you have done this the Levels dialogue box will be displayed (see below).
